IRISH BAYOU COLLECTION
Traditionally Modern Hats and Accessories by Clover and Cross
Like so many of the best parts of American culture, Clover and Cross was born on the bayou; and, like much of the best of America, it was born of Irish heritage. Clover and Cross was originally known as The Shamrock Swamp, and was the invention of an Irish American woman, originally from County Tyrone, who was adopted and raised in the American South. Her adult life was shaped by what she learned on the bayous of Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama and her own Irish heritage and family. They were so shaped by these things, that every design still bears the mark of both cultures blended together to make designs as unique as their designer, as traditional as their Irish roots, as rugged as their bayou inspirations, and as beautiful as the scenery of both!
We invite you to come with us on a tour of the bayous that shaped our Irish-American design journey.

Teche
Perhaps the best known bayou in Louisiana, Bayou Teche changed the course of the mighty Mississippi. It is only fitting that it should lend it's name to the hat that started the Shamrock Swamp. With it's simple lines and stylish design, Beret Teche is our all-time best seller, and a great way to start your collection of traditionally modern attire.
Beret Teche is available in a variety of beautifully earthy colors. Soft, luxurious, and durable, this chapeau is warm in the winter, and cool enough to wear in the summer.
The starburst pattern at the back of Beret Teche creates a lovely "puffed drape" in the hat. Stylized from a crochet pattern originally from County Antrim in 1760, this hat is stylish in the summer, and warm in the cooler months.

CHENE
Along the coastline and at the Atchafalaya River Basin, Bayou Chene is one of Louisiana's best kept and most beautiful secrets. Beret Chene is just such a hat.
Like its cousin, Beret Teche, this hat starts with the beloved Antrim starburst. The shell-stitched band makes it perfect for cooler months, as it can easily be pulled down to warm the ears.
This beloved beret is also perfect for "big hair" and doubles as a small tam.

ST. LOUIS
Snuggled into South Mississippi is the beautiful, quiet Bay Saint Louis. Before Hurricane Katrina in 2005, I used to spend many quiet afternoons knitting and crocheting on the piers and beaches here. It was an escape from the bustle of the everyday life. Here, one could relax, create, and enjoy the sweet coastal air and southern hospitality.
After Hurricane Katrina, Bay Saint Louis showed the world her fighting spirit and endurance. After taking the brunt of the storm, she beat the odds, and is becoming again the beautiful home away from home that she always was.
A delicate and durable style, Beret St. Louis mimics a sand dollar, with ridges similar to Beret Teche and Beret Chene and openwork in between.

LA BATRE
Bayou La Batre was founded in 1786 and is the first permanent settlement in what is now Mobile, Alabama. It was founded by Joseph Bouzage as a fishing village, and it remains, 250 years later, a fishing and shrimping village.
This fisherman's mesh chapeau was first designed for one of Monsieur Bouzage's descendants, Miss Kelli Bosarge of Gulf Coast Art Studio. We would also like to note that Joseph Bouzage (Bosarge) married one Catherine Louise Baudreau (Boudreax). While the designer is neither a Bosarge or a Boudreax, she is very much a Katherine Louise, and is "as close as sisters" with a Bosarge.
Bayou La Batre is a simple town known for it's kind hearts and good fishing. In it's name, we present a fishnet mesh beret that is rugged and demure, fashionable and fun.

CASSOTTE
Bayou Cassotte is an industrial area full of oilmen, industry, ship builders, industrial fishing, and naval activity. Without Bayou Cassotte, the city of Pascagoula, Mississippi would not be able to function.
Bayou Cassotte, the industrial zone, lends it's name to a fisherman's mesh chapeau. Designed similarly to Beret La Batre, this cap hugs the head in all the right ways.

LAFOURCHE
Originally called Chetimachas River, Bayou LaFourche was one of the first Acadian settlements, becoming the center of Cajun life for years. Currently, a major project is underway to reconnect Bayou LaFourche with the Mississippi River/
